With the threat of swine flu epidemic, you can start now and get ready for a herbal remedy to have at hand. You don't even have to go to the store - if you are one of those people who do not use weed-killer in their lawns.

The following three herbs, known as lawn weeds in the US, are exceptionally efficient for flu:

White clover (the blossom):

 white clover bloom

The white clover (trifolium repens) is a plant that is good for only two medical conditions, but very efficient in both. The one we are interested about now is the flu. It has strong anti-viral effects and is targeted for viruses attacking the respiratory system.

The blooms are collected without stem before they start wilting, and dried in one layer, on paper, either in a dry warm ventilated place, or in the sun.

The recommended dosage is one heaped teaspoon of dry bloom per cup of water, decoct or infusion. 2 to 3 cups a day. It is good for preventing the flu, alone or in combination with other herbs that boost the immune system.

Broad leaf plantain:

plantainThe broad leaf plantain (Plantago major) is one of the miracle plants of nature. It is exceptionally efficient for many medical problems. As a treatment for flu, common colds and bronchitis, it is a strong expectorant.

The part of the plant that is used is the leaf. It has to be collected without a stem, and dried in one layer, in a dry very warm and ventilated place or in the sun (fast drying) as the leaves get discolored if they are take too long to dry and lose some of their properties.

Recommended dosage: 2 flat teaspoons of dry rubbed plant per cup of water, infusion, 5 minutes steeping in hot water, 2 to 4 cups a day. Recommended to use if the flu had already settled in, to help clear the lungs of mucus. It will make you cough a lot in the beginning, but it will be a "productive" cough. Best if it's combined with the white-clover to fight the virus while clearing the airways.

Common selfheal:

selfhealAnti-inflamatory and astringent, it is a great cough supressant.

The part used is the bloom, stem and leaves (no roots). Dry in a place that is well ventilated or outside in the sun, on paper.

Recommended dosage: one flat teaspoon of dry rubbed plant per cup of water, decoct or infusion, 2 or 3 cups a day. To be used in combination with the white clover, after the treatment with plantain that clears your lungs, to help with the relief for cough and sore throat.

NOTE: Our online store should have these plants (alone or in the necessary mixture) in a few days, as soon as they get properly dried.
